MEET OUR STAFF

Head Instructor  - Lou  C.

Meet Coach Lou, a seasoned martial artist who has been practicing since his early teens. His journey began with Shorie Ryu Karate and later evolved to include Boxing and Muay-Thai at Global Fighting Legion in San Diego, CA.  While training, Lou was introduced to Jiu-Jitsu by Martin Sanchez, one of Joe Moreira blackbelts, and immediately fell in love with the art of grappling. He trained under Leticia Ribeiro at Gracie Humaita South Bay before moving back to IL.

Today, he is a Black-Belt under Carlos Archila at CheckMat Lake County, where he honed his skills and developed a deeper appreciation for the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

As a former head instructor for Kids Program and assistant instructor for Adults at Lake County Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Coach Lou has a passion for helping students achieve their full potential with his wealth of experience and his unique teaching approach.

But Lou's experience extends far beyond his mastery of martial arts. He served in the U.S Marines and after his service, pursued a degree in Computer Science. This unique combination of experiences has had a profound impact on his approach to teaching and coaching his students. He understands the importance of discipline, but also recognizes that every student learns differently. This is why he takes the time to get to know each of his students on a personal level so that he can tailor his approach to meet their individual needs.

Operations Manager -  Sharla C.

Sharla's passion for martial arts began at an early age when she was exposed to it through her father's love for Kenpo Karate and her family's involvement in various disciplines such as Judo and Aikido. Her upbringing was enriched by martial arts movies, sumo wrestling, and UFC matches that her father would watch with her.

As a child, Sharla took up Aikido, which was a huge inspiration to get her kids into martial arts.  Throughout her life, Sharla's siblings have also been active in Judo, with one being a brown belt and the other a black belt.

In recent years, Sharla has worked for Lake County Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, gaining valuable experience and knowledge that have made her well-rounded in the martial arts industry. Her years of experience working at Lake County BJJ have helped her develop a unique approach that is tailored to meet the individual needs of each student.

Sharla believes that martial arts are more than just physical activity; they are a way of life that promotes self-discipline, respect, and a sense of community.
